Highway and a WAY
EARLY SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES HAMMOND IN 52-0713A
E-30 030 And that night down there when a--a very clergy gentleman sets up and put in the paper that I was an impostor, and ought to be run out of the city, and posing myself to be a Christian, or a man of God." He said I ought to run out of the city, and also like that, and he would challenge me to an open debate." Said, "I couldn't prove in the Scriptures what I was... [Blank.spot.on.tape--Ed.] out of the miracles of Christ, that even Lazarus, he died again. So he challenged that.
Brother Bosworth come, said, "Looky here, Brother Branham."
I said, "That doesn't bother me, Brother Bosworth. Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words never bother me." See?
He said, "Well, Brother Branham..." Brother Bosworth seventy something years old had a fire and fight in him. He said, "That's wrong and that ought to be taken up."
I said, "We don't argue with people. There's thousands down there to be prayed for, a big coliseum setting full of people," I said, "my goodness, what's the use of arguing with one critic out there? Let him alone while the rest of them is getting healing, let him go on."
Jesus said, "Let them go. The blind lead the blind, they'll all fall in the ditch."
I tell you; I ain't criticizing the Baptist. But Baptist people, fundamentally, know what they're talking about as long as it comes to the Word. But they know nothing about the supernatural. And, my brethren, there's where you're losing the blessing. You're right in word. I believe you. I--I agree with you in the things that you believe positionally in Christ, that the believer takes his place in Christ, by faith, and he becomes a child of God by the grace of God. I believe that, and I agree with you. But you done shook too much to this side."
Isaiah said, "There'd be a highway, and a way ('And' is a conjunction.), and a way." It won't be called the highway of holiness. It'll be called the way of holiness. Right in the middle of the road, on this side there's this...
E-27 027 I'm not a legalistic; neither am I an
Arminian or a Calvinist. But I believe that each one had a doctrine. But they
run off on the deep side of it. They just stayed with that and didn't balance
the thing up. There's a highway and a way, and the way is the road. A
highway has a post way over here and a post way over there, but in the middle
of this highway comes a road. You get over in the... You can be in a highway and be in a gutter.
But get in the way. Isaiah said, "There shall be a highway and a
way." "And" is a conjunction which brings the highway down to a
way. And here's where you travel, is in the way. That's where smooth running is
in the way.
You remember how they called
it "the way," in the Bible? All that was found in "this
way." It was called, "a way."
HEBREWS.CHAPTER JEFF IN
HEB 57-0821
11-67 024 Now, I believe in... There's a middle of the road. The road... Now, a lot of times... I used to go to a Nazarene church (The Lord bless those dear people.), old fashion sanctified Methodists is what they are: Church of God, Nazarene, Pilgrim Holiness and many of those good old holiness churches. And they used to sing a song.
I'm walking in the grand old highway,
Telling everywhere I go,
I'd rather be an old time Christian, Lord,
Than anything I know. (Good, it's wonderful.)
And then they used to talk
about the highway of holiness. Now, if you'll read over that... They
get that out of Isaiah the 35th chapter. Now, if you notice, he said,
"There shall be a highway and a way."
Now, "and" is a conjunction. See? A highway... It wasn't a highway of holiness. "It shall be a highway and
a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness," not "the highway
of holiness," "the way of holiness." And
the way of the road is the middle of the road. It's built like this so that the
waters will wash off the trash to both sides, keeping the road clean. If you
don't, you have puddles standing in your road all the time; if it isn't built
right. The way is the
middle of the road.
243 091 Now, to you Nazarene brethren, I'd
like to say this. You say, "The blessed old highway."
But it wasn't the highway,
if you'll notice. Said, "There is a highway, and ('and's a
conjunction)--and a way." And the way is in the highway. Not all is on the
highway going, but all that's in the way that's a-going. See? "There's a highway,
and..." Read Isaiah 35, "There's a highway and a way." See? The
highway has got a center is in the middle of the road. And in the middle of the
road is where. And then when the rain comes, it washes all the trash off on the
side.
Now, if you'll watch, when a man's converted, he sets his eyes right straight on Christ. Now, if you don't watch, like I was preaching the other night, like in...
102 056 Now, the... So, you see, we took that other
side of the road. You know I've always tried to be this, and our Lord has
always revealed it to me; there's one extreme and another extreme; but right in
the middle of the road lays the truth. Did you notice Isaiah, where
He said that there shall be a highway: Isaiah 35? And you remember
how our precious Nazarene brethren used to sing that song, you know, "The
Highway of Holiness. Highway of Holiness." Now, if you'll read your Bible
right, it doesn't say, "the highway of holiness." It said,
"There shall be a highway and a way, and it shall be called," not the
highway of holiness, but "the way of holiness." "And" is a
conjunction that finishes your sentence. See? "It shall be a highway and a
way, and it shall be called the way of holiness," not a highway of
holiness.
See, a road's built, a
way... A good road is built, the highest part's in the center, because it let's
all the trash wash off to both sides. That's it. When a man really
comes to Christ, he's got his eyes centered on Christ. If he's a little bit
emotional, he'll be a fanatic. If he's a little bit cold, he'll get on this
other side and be just a cucumber, over on that side (See?), his intellectual.
But the main thing is right in the middle of the road, with enough Spirit in
you to keep you warm and moving (Amen.), and knowing enough to keep yourself
under obedience to the Spirit, and move just as the Spirit moves, not till or
not after; just as the Spirit moves.
E-63 063 I said, "And what about the rest of them? They do the same thing?" But many times their members are in the paper; they're out... The editors of the paper and things, you don't hear about it." But I said, "They do just as bad." But I said, "Sometimes somebody does get off of the wrong end. And then what do you all do, you jump plumb across the real thing and pull over to that. And this over on this side, the real wild fire, pour it plumb back over to old cold formal." I said, "It's right in the middle of the road goes the genuine Holy Ghost, the church. Glory. Them old cold formals on one side, and radics on the other side. It's all false from the real thing.
Isaiah said in the 35th chapter, "There shall be a highway." You Nazarenes call it the "highway of holiness." You're wrong. Not disputing your word but said, "There shall be highway and ('and' is a conjunction)... There shall be a highway, and a way, and it shall be called (not the highway but) the way of holiness." The middle of the road."
7-4 018 In Isaiah 35 said, "There shall be a
highway, and a way, and it shall be called the way of holiness and the unclean
shall not pass over it."
I was talking to one of the
deacons this afternoon as we was talking about the bridges spanning
across--this new one. I said, "There's many expansions across bodies of
water, bayous today," and I said, "but there's one great expansion
that reaches from earth to glory. It's called 'The King's Highway.' The unclean
shall not pass over it." That's right. It's a road that's built by Christ
our Lord--the expansion that is made from this earth to another land, and the
unclean doesn't pass over it.
