Child
Training
OUR HOPE IS IN GOD NEW YORK NY 51-0929
E-11 Let's bow our heads.
Heavenly Father, we thank Thee tonight, to know that the great Spirit of God
which was upon the prophet Elisha, is on earth today still moving on down
through the sons of God. The great Holy Spirit that was given at Pentecost is
here tonight. And Thy children, many are weary and worn, been pushed
about, all for their own good, their teaching, their child training, to bring
them up in the admiration of the Lord. Trials worth more than silver and gold,
but as it is written, "No chastisement is pleasant for the time
being."
But finally when Thy Church becomes to have its training, then they will become adopted sons, or placed sons, into the inherit of God which shall inherit all things and be equal in the powers and blessings as a Son of God, brothers to Him.
E-29 Now, Moses looked over the lamb, said, "Take a lamb, every one of you, for the house, and it must be first put up, and tried."
Listen, you new converts, now. We thank God for many every night. And look, first thing comes along is a trial. As soon as you come to Christ, something's going to happen. Every son that cometh to God must first be tried, scourged, whipped a little, but if you... Things happen, to really try you out.
Child training, that's what it is. You believe in Scriptural trial--child training? The Bible speaks of training a child with tutors, and so forth, bringing him up, straightening him out, giving him what he belongs.
E-30 That's what's the matter tonight, preachers has let the congregation get by with any thing. They need a little child training. That's right. That's what's the matter with the world today, the reason they got so much in the natural, juvenile delinquency; we need some child training. I think it's a lot of parent delinquency.
My daddy, he really believed
in that child training. He had a switch laying up over the door, and a razor
strap hanging on the wall. We know what it meant. It's too bad we ever got away
from it, isn't it? Yes.
Child training... We need preachers that'll preach the Word, tell us the truth about it, tell us we must be borned again, and bring us on the basis of the shed Blood to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, introduced all the good things that God's got for us. That's a fact, sir. There it is. That's the kind you get the vitamins from. Might be in a barn, or mission, but just so you're getting fed is the main thing.
E-44 Job knowed that he had done all that he could do. Now, perhaps they maybe they tried (some of the theologians), tried to say, "Now, Job, what strength is there in that blood of the lamb that you're offering?"
Job said, "It's according to the Word. He requires that." And he knew that he was innocent. So down from the east come a little prince by the name of Elihu, in other words God's manifestation of the pre-foreknowledge of the Lord Jesus, God Himself: El, meaning God, Eli-hu.
And He begin to straighten Job up. He said, "Look, Job," He said, "I'm not accusing you of being a secret sinner, but you have accused God wrong."
And now, Job said, "Now,
look, I've noticed these trees; if they die, they live again. If a flower seed
drops in the ground, it lives again, but man layeth down; yea, he giveth up the
ghost; his sons come to mourn; he perceive it not. He don't raise up no more.
He lays there. Oh, that You can hide me in the grave..." In
distress, honest man, getting just a little bit of child-training.
E-44 Anyhow notice, when he got over there then he found out, he said "There's Elijah; he sets his company straight (Elisha), 'cause he just associated with the prophet, a real prophet. And we understand, he had the double portion. You know what that's the type of? That's a type of the Holy Ghost church associating with Jesus. You believe it?
Elisha looked. He said, "Now, to... When he knew he was going to be taken up, translated, he told Elisha, said, "Now, you wait here, for I'm going to another place."
And Elisha said, "As the Lord liveth, and your soul never dies, I'll not leave you." Going to stick with him. So he's tried him out. Sometimes God gives you trials (Did you ever know that?), give you some child training. Oh, get you all fixed up sometimes like that, just to see what you'll do about it. See?
E-36 All right. When little
Isaac come along, God fulfilled His promise to Abraham. Then he got to be about
sixteen or eighteen years old, lovely, little boy; and here was Abraham and
Sarah enjoying the blessings. Then God said--give Abraham some testing.
Do you believe that children of God have testings and trials? "Every son
that cometh to God must first be tried, chastened."
Chastised, did you ever have any of it, child-training, bringing you up, giving you a little protaplasma stimulation once in a while by the Gospel, making you, correction...? My daddy was awful good at that. Yes, sir. He believed in the golden rule. It laid up over the door, had all the ten commandments out on it, a hickory stick about that long, brush on the end of it. I tell you, that made discipline in the Branham home. But we love him. What would we have been if he hadn't have did it? That's the way God is; He brings discipline to His children, trying them, whipping them when they're wrong. I'm happy that my heavenly Father gives whippings to those who are wrong, and corrects me when I'm wrong, gives me whippings, makes me straighten up, walk like you should walk.
E-32 Job here, in the speaking of Him as a Redeemer, how that everything had gone wrong for him, seemingly... You know, God hasn't promised a flower bed of ease, but He's promised a lot of mountains, but He's promised grace to go over every one of them. I like Job speaking.
Watch. After Job went
through his trials and testings, as they come upon every child of God, first
has to be tried, tested. In other words, they have to be trained like child
training, take some whippings, straighten up. You know how to act then, how to conduct yourself
as a Christian. God gives you a little bit of whipping once in a
while, turns you around a few times; you know what it's all about, lays you on your back,
so you can look up. Sure.
E-36 And if along the road something is
done, testing and trying, you--your trial, child-training as you go along, remember, His
Angels will bear you up, Angels
to comfort you, Angels
to give you faith, Angels
to move you along. God's got a host of Angels all up-and-down the
ladder.
115 Our heavenly Father, as the beautiful, sacred Presence of the Holy Spirit now standing here blessing His children, many times He's had to correct them, "For every son that cometh to God, must first be chastened and tried, receive child-training, reproofs," not no exceptions: every one. But when we endure the correction of our Father, then it yieldeth forth the present and pleasant fruits. I pray, God, that You'll just let each child know that, not go away, just kind of imagining, but let them know that this is Your blessings to them: the sincere milk of the Gospel pouring down in their soul milk and honey out of Canaan's land, new wine to stimulate them in faith, worshipping, hearts bowed before Thee, hands up, tears running down cheeks, quietly, reverently worshipping.
E-32 And many a time our Trainer the Holy Spirit,
we try to do it the wrong way, but sometimes it hurts us. Sometimes we
may lay on a bed of affliction; sometimes the doctor may say that all hopes is
gone; but it's the Holy Spirit teaching us to use the right hand. He
knows what's best. He knows how the Father wants it done. He is the trainer.
And I thought... Little Joseph, he wouldn't use the hand, so the mother reaches up and gets her frailing stick, about so long. And she tapped it on the side, and he looked over to me. But yet I loved him with all my heart, would die freely for him, but I knew the mother knowed best. I said, "She's training the child."
We can't look for sympathy and be sympathized with too
much. We must listen to the child-training of our Father. He knows
what's best. Sometimes we say, when the Gospel's being preached, "Oh, I'll
just go to my church. They don't tr... I'll just believe it this a way."
See? But remember the Holy Spirit knows best. It knows how to train you.
Sometimes It taps the stick, corrects you. And you must remember God made Him
the--the child-trainer for the Church. And He loves the Father, and He will
always point to the Father.
E-33 And now, when the
child was training up, that didn't mean the child... The child is certainly a
child of the father, but if it was a disobedient child, the trainer always had
trouble with it, always it was in and out, up-and-down, well, then, this
message had to be brought to the father when the father required, "How is
my child progressing?"
Then he would have to say,
"It's not doing so well." Well, then, of course that grieved the
heart of the father.
And it does today when the
Holy Spirit has to bring our record before God. When we become children of God
we ought to walk worthy of the vocation. We ought to walk worthy of everything that God has laid
down for us to do, for the Holy Spirit's training us, child-training.
E-39 And then one day God wanted to make it real plain to the people in Phoenix. So how He was going to do it, He was going to give this Abraham a double test. So He said, "Abraham, take thine son, thy only son, and take him to a certain mountain, where I'm going to show you, and there sacrifice him.
Now, what if Abraham would have took the second thought? "How am I going to be the father of nations, when here I am this old, and You're asking me kill and destroy the only evidence that I have that You'll keep Your Word and make me a father of nations?"
How God loves to test His people. Every child that comes to God must be tested, child trained; no exceptions, everyone.
And maybe tonight, that you're sick, just to have a little child training, just a little testing. Don't be discouraged. God's on the throne. He knows all things. If were truly borned of the Spirit of God, everything's working together for our good. He's going to make everything right. He promised He would. He swore He would. And He's got to keep that Word. He's kept it now for oh, thousands of years to every believer. Would you be any exception? No, sir. We're no exception. Now, watch Him now.
E-21 Watch, now as they went out, the test come. Every time that a man really steps out to serve God, he goes through testing. God gives you a little training, child training. It is not very pleasant the Bible said, for a while, but it yieldeth forth peaceful fruits.
My daddy used to take me out behind the house with a strap of leather, about like that, got some good old fashion child training. It's too bad that our children don't get it today. The trouble of it is, you cigarette smoking, cocktail drinking, picture show running mothers, run around on barflies and things, and letting a babysitter take care of your kids, instead of being being home taking care of them like God gave them to you, that's what caused all this stuff they get in. That's exactly right.
No wonder you can't have faith. How can you associate with the things of the world and try to associate it with Christ? God calls for separation; then trials and testings come. The Bible said if we can't stand the trails and testing, then we become the legitimate children--illegitimate. "Bastard children," the Bible calls it, and not the children of God. We can't stand the trails and testings.
E-24 No wonder David
cried (last nights Scripture reading), "Forget not all his benefits."
Why, you know, after you come into this Kingdom of God, there's a lot of
benefits goes with it. When God calls you, knocks at your heart, separates you
from the things of the world, and gives you a little child training, to see if
you're going to hold out or not, gives you a little scolding, shakes you
around, get a little chastisement... All of you get it, if you're really
children of God, get a little training.
Then God baptizes you into the
fellowship of the Kingdom and it's all yours. Amen.
"Abraham, the trials are
over now; get out and walk around; it all belongs to you." What a
beautiful picture of the overcomer. Amen. The overcomer, is heir of all things.
You know, people... I don't see what's the matter with you as Christians, that
you don't walk around a little while, see what you own. You know, would you go
if...
81 What do you do with a baby soon as it's born? Wash him. Is that right? And as soon as a man has died to himself and's born of God, he's washed by the water of the Word. Amen. If It says, "Jesus' Name," you say "Jesus' Name"; says, "You must be born again," you say the same thing. Ever what God says, you're washed by that water of the Word. Amen.
Now, you're ready now for life.
You're ready to be--start out now. Now, you're born anew, born in the family of
God with a new parent. Yes, sir. Your tutors used to be... Now you got tutors
that is now; you got a new Parent. You can't be born without having a parent.
So if you're born in the brotherhood of a church, that's what you got. If
you're born in a creed, there you are. But if you're born in God, conceived in
His Word, you got a new Parent; that's God, ready to make His Word known among
us, with you, speak It through you. Oh, a new Parent, that Parent is God. He's
ready to take His Word now that He's already spoke, and lay It in you and make
It come to life. See? Now, you have your training now. You're ready--you're
ready to go into training now, child-training. That's the hard part, when you
think you ought to do this, and the Word cuts you around and shows you
something else. "Why, they believe that over..." That don't make any
difference what they believe. Here's what God said. You must be about the
Father's business. Now you're getting born again. Now you're getting right,
getting straightened out. You have a new Parent.
E-23 We find that Noah... That after you have
received this policy that I am speaking of this morning, the assurance, the
assurance of salvation, you're always tried. And there's always... The
Kingdom of God doesn't come by observation, and we know that you're tried.
Every son that cometh to God must be child-trained.
I think that's what's the
matter with a bunch of our little Elvises and Rickys today. They didn't have
the right kind of child training. Papa used to take me to the woodshed, and I
got a good education of how to behave myself. He had a hickory limb with all
the ten commandments on the end of it. It certainly brought discipline to me.
It's too bad we don't have fathers and mothers, more of them today that would do the same thing, instead of hot rodding, and out all night, and their daughters twisted up in some... Oh, you know what I mean.
